Hi Earlier I faced some problems with Ubuntu 8.10 (after successful installation login screen dint come due to graphic card unsupportability).

So I had to stick to 8.04 and upgraded to 9.04 later. Now I want to upgrade to 10.10. Can I upgrade successfully? Will it supports all type of graphic cards?

Also please let me know the procedure..

Thanks,
Ram

1. Friendly warning, do not upgrade to 10.10 which has just been released as alpha. 10.04 is another matter.

2. I would guess it is totally impossible to say if 10.04 supports all graphics cards since there are just way too many in existence.

Upgrade procedure would be as follows.

1. Read information from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LucidUpgrades. Since you are running 8.04 there is a chapter that describes the upgrade procedure.
2. Back up everything
3. Get .iso image
4. Burn .iso image to CD to get a liveCD.
5. Test your computer with liveCD
6. If your computer works with LiveCD then check that you do not have intel 855GM hardware (chipset I think). If you have your computer may hang up in boot up after installation. See this thread for more info and possible workaround. (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1476769)
7. Remove live CD and follow upgrade instructions from step 1 to upgrade.

Good luck, hopefully this helps at least a bit.
