Does this kind of software exist (for linux)?

Hi everybody,

I'm looking for a piece of software I could not discover yet, at least for linux. In the company I work our support staff uses a windows programm called "Shortcut" (www.typer.de). It allows you to define hotkeys and text shortcuts for text of arbitrary length, which are then available in most applications you can edit text in. It's quite useful, for they work with Openoffice, an email client and firefox where text is often repeated in their messages.
We are now considering using linux as OS on the support boxes and have a replacement for every software needed -- except a programm that does this shortcut thingy. And since I'm the only one familiar with linux, my boss makes me search it ;)
Perhaps someone here knows something like that for linux...?

I can't think of a program that doeas exactly what you want, but you should check out KDE's "Katapult" and "Klipper". Perhaps, if cofigured propperly, they can give you the desired result. If you could make Katapult invoke one of Klipper's entries - you'll have exactly what you want.
