If you don't use Google, what search engine do you use?

Scroogle SSL, which is kind of Google with some added privacy protection. There are Firefox add-ons that add it to your search field.

Just found Blackle yesterday, which is Google with a black screen, which when I do have to use Google (when I want commercials) it is easier on my eyes.

I'll use Duckgo in the future if their results improve.

I use Google. I used Metacrawler in the 90's.

Well, I regularly use Google, but I do use Bing whenever Google fails me.

Aren't results the only reason that should matter when picking a search engine?

Not in my case. I also like to be able to limit how much info' gets collected regarding my searching/surfing habits. I use Privoxy & a number of Firefox add-ons: Google sharing, Ghostery, RefControl, as well as doing most of my searching via Scroogle SSL. I'm still not surfing anonymously but I have limited the amount of data that can be collected.

I also have Firefox ask me every a site wants to set a cookie, to which I automatically block them as a reflex action & have them listed permanently as blocked.

If I do need the cookie for some reason I go in remove the block in Firefox preferences. I have a very long list of blocked sites. After a while of operating like this you don't get many prompts regarding cookies, only from new sites.

Alive, but most dislike the complete blocking of adult pages

Man, Lycos still exists? Reminds me of the 90s when I was just discovering the internet and everybody used lycos/excite/altavista and a plethora of other search engines that all looked the same.

Net Zero and Lycos both had free dial-up at one time.

http://www.dogpile.com/ - it plays happily with Lucid Puppy and most search engines.

Yacy (http://yacy.net) first (support FOSS search!)
DuckDuckGo (http://duckduckgo.com) if that doesn't work
Scroogle (https://ssl.scroogle.org)after that.

Avoid giving personal data to big brothe -er- Google at all costs.

Are you asking if I don't use google, what do I use to google things?

(note: yes this was a joke)

KingYaba

Bing or Ask.

Primefalcon

I would not use Bing, and since yahoo is really just bing this days I wouldn't use that....

I guess for the others I'd have to expend some time to see what gave back the best results, these days when I try something out I only compare to see if they're better they Google for any results, nothing has been yet

scroogle
I don't use privoxy, but I think those are good ideas. I don't allow third party cookies because they have no business setting cookies. (3rd party is someone besides the site I'm visiting)

I use Startpage (http://startpage.com) for the privacy. But it's not as exhaustive as Google. Scroogle is nice too.

I use googlubuntu.com and maemOO (http://www.google.com/cse/home?cx=006570508085098094209:dwczuygxer4&hl=en) :)

I actively avoid yahoo (for past dealings with MS) and bing.
