I have XAMPP installed on my server and would like to keep it there. However I'm pretty useless at terminal so would also like to have a control panel.
Can I install LAMP over XAMPP without it interfering with my current apps? I'd like to use Easy Hosting Control Panel ( ehcp.net ) or something similar to help me manage FTP users and Mail setup but I really don't want to interfere with my current XAMPP.

It is possible, provided you have multiple IPs for a start (setting XAMPP to use only one IP then your new setup on another IP).
I've not used EHCP before, so I can't give you any advise on that area - I use Hiawatha website and a custom CP myself.

EHCP makes setting everything up pretty simple. So if I install LAMP I just point it to my 2nd IP address? Would it overwrite my current host file? I know that XAMPP runs in /opt and LAMP seems to go to /var....but it's taking me forever to get XAMPP going so I'm hesitant to do anything to compromise that.
