Well, the thing is, I was still able to access Grub, select Windows and click on it to boot it.

After that, it would take me to a black screen with a white blinking cursor in the top left, and never actually boot.

I think it has something to do with the Ubuntu update or some part of it conflicting with the partition Windows is on. Can you confirm this by looking at the boot script?

I'll try booting into Windows right now, though.

The boot script will make no sense to me i think^^ But it semes like you missing the windows boot script/ini or something. I found something in my papers from that time i dual booted.. boot from Ubuntu Livecd

sudo grub
find /boot/grub/stage1
root (hd0.1) if you got that awnser above
setup (hd0)
quit
sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

and add this at the bottom:
title Windows xp
root (hd0,1)
makeactive
chainloader +1

Don't know if it will work but that is what i used to do when re-installed ubuntu.

Okay, thanks for that.

Firstly, though, I think maybe I should follow the instructions here:
http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/bootinfoscript/index.php?title=Boot_Problems:Boot_Sector

I just wanted to post my problem to see if anyone would confirm this before I try it.

It's worth a shot. In my experience after re-installing or upgrading ubuntu windows want boot due to the place of grub..

I followed the instructions to repair the boot sector in the link I posted, and all is good! I'm now in Windows.

Thanks for your time, pont.
