a little help to make ubuntu partitioning and installing

mini howto: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9216264&postcount=14

with partedmagic, create your windows primary partition and divide the other part into extended partition into which you can create the ubuntu partitions, and the unused part you want.

depend on your needs, a windows partition of 15/20 go might be good

With laptops, it's very important that you try out the LiveCD first -- to prevent the situation of forcing an install that later, does not work.

Any problems you encounter during running Ubuntu from a LiveCD are going to range from trivial to impossible to fix later. You can then come back here, search on specific problems you encounter, and see what's involved in fixing them.
