Equipment: HP DV9000 AMD Turion 64X2, GeForce Go 6150, Ubuntu Lucid Lynx

Problem: I use the current Nvidia driver using System>Administration>Hardware Drivers. Sometimes it will boot up fine and work great.
More often than not though, Ubuntu will boot up extremely laggy, I have to run everything with no visual effects.
I figured this may be due to an outdated driver. When i tried to DL a new one using the instructions at--

--i realized I can't download a driver for my system since Nvidia doesn't do updates for Geforce Go series drivers.
What can I do?
