Hi,

We're in the process of rebooting our LUG, and I'd like to revamp our website to give it more functionality. Until about 8 months ago we were using Joomla! as the main site with phpBB as the message forum, then I switched it to MediaWiki and phpBB. There's a plugin for MediaWiki to integrate security between it and phpBB which worked great.

Now that we're looking at rebooting/relaunching the LUG to be more community oriented instead of just a hobby group I want to setup something that gives us the ability to share documents, allow people, groups, businesses to maintain their own blogs or sites, and also a place for discussions.

I'm not sure if it'd be better to go with more of a social networking site like Elgg (http://elgg.org/) and find plugins to add Document/Content Management or to go with something like SilverStripe (http://www.silverstripe.org/) which is a CMS system and use plugins to add a social networking twist to it. I'd love to stick with phpBB, but ideally it'd be nice if everything was under one umbrella to keep the logins simple.

Above all else I want the site to look good and to be a portal for the community to share documents and information related to open source software. Plus for people who want to setup blogs or other sites that can tie into their other social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc).

Any other suggestions or something I'm overlooking?

Thanks...

Sam
