Open up synaptic and do a search for "nvu", there's also "bluefish". install both and decide which you like better. There'd be other as well.. but i can't think of them atm.

why is there 2 instances of this thread?. the other one is here (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=150502)

i like the look of bluefish but does it have a design view like in dreamweaver as drummer points out, nvu does. in fact, nvu is the only WISYWIG that i know of. well, there's one called amaya, but that still uses gtk1.

Nvu does WYSIWYG but not scripting. Bluefish does scripting but not WYSIWYG. Nothing on Linux does both, apparently, so I'm still doing web dev in Windows. Which is pretty funny, because I am developing web apps for php/mysql/apache on Linux servers.

Why do you want a wysiwyg editor for php? That makes no sense. Personally I use kate for all my coding needs.

Sure, if you just want html/css code then use a wysiwyg editor - but still, you will end up (in most cases) with some seriously ugly code.

Macromedia Dreamweaver produces, IME, some terrible html code and should be avoided.

I found that once I had moved away from M.D. my coding efficiency increased and I actually got more work done.

there's amaya here (http://www.w3.org/Amaya/) that does scripting too (i think), but that still uses gtk1.
