So a friend of mine asked me the following today in an email:

"We need an easy to use ftp or similar site where we can upload papers, meetings of interest, points for discussion, etc. Can you suggest some easy way(s) to do this? We tried googledocs and google groups in the past and found it cumbersome to use."

I'm quite stumped. I would have suggested googledocs for the exact thing he requires, but if that is cumbersome, then I don't know of another similar service which is better...

Any ideas?

how long in the past?

it's much better now.

even better if you're on a smart/android phone on the go or plan to get one in the future.

what exactly did you find cumbersome?

zoho might also be a good alt

You might like this, might not: http://member.thinkfree.com/member/pages/signin_no_redirect.jsp

Just thought I'd put it out there...

Edit: Actually OP, why don't you just make a free wordpress.com blog and have shared admin privileges?

Microsoft's docs.com is pretty good, and your mates will be used to the interface too

I agree, google docs has a nice interface and zoho would be an excellent alternate. I use it quite often because it's going to work on any net connected computer and I don't have to worry about those accursed .docx files

Here's one more: http://sync.in/

Multiple people can work on the document at the same time. There is also chat. I worked on a report for a class I'm taking and found it to be a good tool.

What about Github.com? It's more for application code but wouldn't it work for any data?

Zoho would be good if you also want to edit documents, but if you don't need editing i would suggest ubuntu one.

You guys beat me to it. I doubt if it's really better than Google, though.
