It has 640 MB RAM, 40GB 5400 rpm HD, 1.2GHz Intel Pentium M processor, and the Intel 855GM chipset for I/O and graphics. I've got PC Linux OS 2010 (lxde) installed, and Ubuntu Lucid Lynx will boot from a USB flash memory drive, but Lubuntu 10.04 won't. X starts, then the screen blanks and everything stalls.

How do I get Lubuntu installed?

Many thanks, all.

Problem wider than I thought at first: See

Dell Latitude X300 works w/ 2.6.32-16, fails with 2.6.32-22

Attention Dell X300 owners,

My ageing Dell X300 from 2004 accepted an out-of-the-box install of Ubuntu 10.10, after buggy/incomplete installs with earlier versions. In particular Ubuntu 10.10 successfully installed the Broadcom B43 WIFI driver, the I855 graphics, reading and writing SDHC flash cards, two-finger scrolling of the Synaptics touchpad.

Possibly this happy news has been reported earlier? Anyhow, my X300 with its 640 MB RAM, 60 GB HD, is now ready for a new life as a snappy cloud computer.

greetings,
