Hi, I want to install Ubuntu Server 9.10 over my current ubuntu, which is 8.04, desktop.
It is a dual boot, with windows XP, the current ubuntu installation may be completely deleted.

Should this be possible without any difficulties and without reinstalling windows XP? Or is there anything I should be weary of?

Why don't you install Lucid server version? It is LTS just like Hardy. You can use this (http://images.howtoforge.com/images/perfect_server_ubuntu_10.04_ispconfig2/big/1.png) guide, but when you come to the partition stage select manual. That way you will see and be able to delete Ubuntu partition and install over it.

I see, thank you. So it's not any different from installing it on a new drive, and partitioning it manually.

I need 9.10 for the application I'm going to use it for.
