View Full Version : [all variants] OSS corruption at startup

June 6th, 2010, 11:23 PM

I installed the oss4-* packages (much preferring OSS to PulseAudio/ALSA and having never had any luck getting ALSA dmix to work), but whenever I boot Ubuntu and try to use sound the result is a load of random, garbled noise. I have to manually remove and reload all of the oss modules using modprobe in order to get working sound.

This was a problem on my last Ubuntu installation (for which, if I recall correctly, I compiled OSS4 from source), and I'm not at all sure why it happens. Could anyone possibly help?

Thanks, Matt
