problem with software center & update manager

Hi:
I just installed Ubuntu 10.04, it is easier to use and install software then previous version. But when I click on Ubuntu software center or update manager, the window pop up then disappear, anyone know what is wrong?

Try running update-manager and software-center from a terminal and see if you get an error message.

I've tried sudo apt-get update command, update python, then the computer froze, I restarted then the software center start working.
