uninstalled most apps by mistake

Hi,

While doing a reinstall of Perl, I Selected multiple applications and libraies and uninstalled tem.

I now dont even have teh synaptics package manager and update manager.

Is there a way to get to a prevous state in ubuntu. or undo changes in Synaptic Package manager\?

The firt thing I need is to get the Synaptics and update manager back

Please Help!!!

if you can get to a terminal, you could try "sudo apt-get update" followed by "sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop", which might bring a bunch of it back.

I was able to launch the update command....will try the desktop command as well.]
