Ubunta firefox connection not working

:confused:I just install ubuntu 10.04 lts netbook version side by side with ubuntu 8.04.

The firefox web is not working with 'unable to connect to server" message. However, the
update manager is working for downloading new updates and the previous ubuntu 8.04 is working fine.

I have tried setting NO proxy but it does not work. I have tried ping it works normal.

Please help. My notebook is Lenovo R61i (thinkpad).

I get a very similar problem, it is not a problem with your internet connection but something to do with firefox itself i use chromium and it works faster than any other browser. IT is not only firefox other mozilla based browsers (prism, songbird, seamonkey etc.) don't work either. if you have a pen drive i recomend moving all your files you want to keap from your 8.04 to the 10.04 cause it will have better suport and you don't need 2 ubuntu installs side by side asit slows down your memory (ram)
