Hello,

It is a little unnerving to do an upgrade to Lucid when Jaunty Jackelope is working so well.

Question 1: Do I need anything other than a backup (using Simple Backup Config onto 2nd hard drive) to cover my **** before starting?

Just received 10.04 LTS CD in mail.

2. Can I use upgrade manager to extract needed files? If I boot CD and do install it asks about
Preparing Disk Space.
Options:
1. Erase disk
2. Longest contiguous free space
3. Specify partitions manually
4. Install side by side

If I do #2 or #4 can I remove Jaunty later if Lucid is clean and OK? Not sure about #3 option. Number 1 is NOT an option; running dual boot OS's.

Or should I wait 6 months when more bugs have been exterminated? :lolflag:

This upgrading makes me nervous....

It isn't compulsory to upgrade to the next version, but a disk image with Clonezilla would protect you and give you a way back to your current setup in the event of a problem.

In addition, backup up your precious data as you would normally.

Can I use upgrade manager

You cannot upgrade to Lucid from Jaunty without first upgrading to Karmic, so a clean install is the way to go.

I'll requote your own words... "Jaunty Jackelope is working so well"

if you have enough room , let Jaunty as its working fine , and install lucid on its partition: if one fail you still have the other
