The Problem: When using a browser, either Firefox (ver. 3.5.9) or Google Chrome (ver. 5.0.375.55), my keyboard and mouse freeze, the lights on the keyboard by the F keys begin to flash and then the computer shuts off and reboots. It happens randomly and occurs about once an hour. I recently tried to upgrade to Lucid 10.04 but it was a disaster so I reformatted my hard drive and did a clean install of Karmic 9.10.

To test the system, I opened the browser immediately after formatting the hard drive and completing the fresh install. You can't have a more stripped down set up than that. Compiz was not installed and no other programs were loaded.

From what I have read the problem seems to be related to the GPU and the X session. Can anyone out there tell me how to debug this problem or give me a fix? Any help is welcomed.

My System:
OS: Ubuntu: Karmic 9.10

Similar here. But this error (kernel crash) is 100% reproducible -> After recent (04 June 2010) update of kernel to 2.6.31-22-generic anytime closing Google Crome Unstable leads to green artefacts at screen, mouse and KBD freeze and system reboot. It is necessary to introduce it to Launchpad.
