Upgrade to 9.10 showing 8.10

I have upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10.
Now if I boot I get a blank screen only.
Hitting Esc gives me the Grub, and this only lists:
Ubuntu 8.10, kernal 2.6.27-16 and my duel boot of windows 7.

Not sure how to fix this short of clean re-install from CD.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the feedback.
Tried this and some other stuff, but no change.
I have decided to back up data and do a fresh install, directly to 10.04
