My new computer won't finish installing 10.04. It hangs up at 89%. I have tried three times with two different cds. Both work fine live. (That is how I am typing this).

What happens at 89%? How can I keep it from hanging?

You could try the alternate install cd:
http://www.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/ubuntu-releases/10.04/

May not work any better, but maybe worth a shot.

I am having the same issue with it stopping at 89%! Will try the alternate cd and update this accordingly.

Thanks

What are the specs on your machine?

Here's mine
ASRock M3A770DE Motherboard
AMD Sempron 140 2.7ghz
2GB A-DATA Gaming Series DDR3 SDRAM 1600 (PC3 12800)
Seagate Barracuda 7200 500GB SATA 3.0 Gb\s
Samsung 24x DVD BurnerSATA
Zotac GeForce FX 5200 256mb

It boots and runs great live. I guess I will try alternate also.
It's a pain cause I will have to run a cord or move the computer across the house. Planning on using wireless on this one.

Sorry about no specs. I am quite new here (one day). What kind are expected?

Oh... most importantly, the alternate install worked! It just takes quite a while longer but successful and slow is so much better than quicker yet unsuccessful.

Thanks
