I have not found a topic quite like this question - and this could be a first??

We have a Senegalese exchange student who is returning home after a great year here in the US. The Thinkpad was donated and we would like to give it to her to take home. The problem is it has W98 installed and no wireless. It does have 2 PCMCIA slots so I am hoping I can insert a wireless card there, find and install drivers for it, and make it work. From what I can tell it looks dicey. And I don't even know if she will be able to connect wirelessly there or will have to hardwire...which presents another problem since the 570 doesn't have a network connection. It does have a phone jack:o

To the point....my question is - keeping in mind she needs an OS that just works and that she will be using it in Senegal - what would you suggest I use? I have W2K Pro which I could install and give her a newer M$ system or I could try a LINUX flavor. Keeping in mind this is a PII processor, it has about 2MB Ram and only about 6GB HD is there an answer here?

Thanks

Doug
