View Full Version : Why are modern touchscreens so prone to fingerprints?

I owned a laptop in '99, one of the earlier LCD's that had the 'smoked' style screen, not glossy at all. Only problem I remember with it was the classic viewing angle problem which I'm not thinking has been solved solely through shiny screens. Soooooo... why do the new touchscreens always seem to feature the high-gloss screens that are covered in fingerprints so quickly? Because apple designs their touchscreens like that?

Because they look great new.

Because glossy screens appear to help improve the color intensity and contrast levels.

Because you like to touch your screen at night. :D

Glossy screens are style over substance. They look nice when new but are awful to actually use, giving fingerprint and reflection problems.

The "high voltage feedback" screensaver feature may fix some of these problems.
