I run windows XP and Ubuntu on the same system. After the last upgrade Windows fails to load, and shift nullifies my key strokes in Ubuntu [I'm using capslock right now.].

Fixed the shift key issue, but still no Windows. :(

You installed grub2 to the XP partition, ubuntu didn't break anything:

Boot sector info: Grub 2 is installed in the boot sector of sda1

Do the following procedure on /dev/sda1, that's partition #1 on disk /dev/sda:

After that it should be fine.
