View Full Version : What's that app called?

My girlfriend's brother works in IT and is greatly into technology. He has an old bondy blue mac running OS X 10.2 that he uses to control all the lighting/power in the house. It's been ages since I've spoken to him, but I am curious if anyone here knows what it is because the name of the application escaped me.

It's a window with a list of all the TV's, lights, etc that can also be set so that lights will turn off at certain times (every light in the house turns off at exactly 12 AM).. You can click a box next to the light/TV/whatever and it'll turn on or off. I sat down and tried it out and it was pretty cool; he has a fairly large house so it's pretty convenient to be able to just click your lights and TV on/off from a 10 year old Mac :)

Any ideas?

Edit: Found this when looking around

Maybe someone might find it useful!

Hey there

I think you need to have the right equitment in your power installation, or else you can't control your lights or whatever you have to control, you need some kind of controller, were you can plug your computer in to. But normally these components have software with them when you buy them.

But i don't now if you have controller in your home.

Hope that can help a bit

I think there was something called X10 or X12. But I'm not sure.

hopefully X10 is still up to date, but since it's been 5 years since i heard anything about it, and 10 years since first word, it may not be the flagship it used to.
check out some alternatives here:

This may suit you if you want a Media Center too, have never used it, but came across it when looking for HTPC software
