View Full Version : [ubuntu] How to mute sound until headphones plugged in

June 1st, 2010, 09:11 PM

I am trying to move away from xp to ubuntu and am having lots of success so far. I was looking for a feature that I use under xp but haven't been able to find as yet.

I always use my laptop in the office and often listen to music on headphones, xp has a handy sound feature which allows me to mute the built in speakers but play sound through anything connected to the headphone jack. This saves me from accidently blaring out music when I've forgotten to plug-in the headphones.

Is there a way to achieve similar behaviour in ubuntu? I'm currently at 9.10 and probably going to update to the latest version before I try to completely switch from xp.

Thanks for any help,
