I have the sudden urge to play around with kde. However I would like to keep my windows (for gaming) and my ubuntu (everything else). When I start up the installer it goes through the regular, and once it comes to the hdd partitioning I always get confused. I am curious if I let it do it automatically what will happen? Will it keep both my windows and ubuntu on the computer or will it overwrite them?

Just install KDE desktop environment within your ubuntu installation and you'll be able to choose which environment (KDE or Gnome) to use. Simply use Synaptic Package Manager.

I will try that at first I guess. Before when I had done, a few ubuntu versions back it was extremely buggy.
