Help! My Sound and Network Applets have disappeared. Probably with help from a seven year old. When I right click the panel to "Add to Panel" neither Sound/Volume nor the Network Applet are available in the list. So how do I fix it?

Try the Connect to Server applet.
EDIT: Are you talking about the internet connection applet? If so, then thats the Notification Area applet.

Same problem here, on one of the laptops I'm running Lucid. The laptop, a really old Vaio, has no WiFi adapter, only the Ethernet port; everything works A Ok, the port works, but the icon is missing, and setting up an IP address thru System > Preferences > Network Connections does nothing at all.
I have to setup connections for the Ethernet port thru the Terminal.
Annoying, and strange.

:) Grrreat thanks! Notification area it is. I was looking for something that says network something with the network icon beside it.

How do I end this thread? I don't see a "solved" tab.
