I installed a fresh Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid yesterday after some failed attempts to update to Catalyst 10.5 drivers for the ATI graphics card. I decided to do a fresh install and start over.

The update screen popped up today with some 86MB worth of updates. I went ahead and downloaded all of them and started installation. Unfortunately, the computer froze somewhere in the middle of the process. The power button in the up right corner turned from off white to red.

I restarted the computer, and the Grub interface suddenly showed three different OS options. One is Windows XP, which is expected as I set up dual boot, but there are now two Ubuntu options instead of one. Why has that happened?

Also, what should I do about the failed install of updates? I have know idea at what point the install failed. Is there anyway to revert back everything prior to the crash?

Thanks
