Nothing but the latest and greatest Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. Your P4 should have absolutely no problem handling that. At least 512 MB Ram would be my recommendation, more is better. Be sure to format the Ubuntu partition with the ext4 file system though since that's standard now. Just a tad faster than ext3 too, in my opinion.

ubuntu runs just fine on mine. the nice thing is you can try either one out to see what you like more!

What is the speed of the chip? P4 had some pretty large variations I have a laptop with 1 gig and a desktop with 1.8 gigs neither really run the standard Ubuntu setup with 512 ram as fast as it would with more memory.

I use XP, puppy linux, and Ubuntu on both machines, but the XP and puppy run very fast, the Ubuntu is for when I need the safety of a more locked down root system.
