I've new to Linux and would like to try it out on my system. My current hard drives/partitions look like this:

1 x 640GB NTFS Windows 7 Install

1 x 320GB NTFS split into two partitions, 1 x 260gb for storage, then 1 x 40GB with a backup clean Windows 7 install.

I would like to install Ubuntu 10.4 on the 40GB partition currently containing a backup copy of windows 7. I already have the desktop 64 bit CD burned and can go boot it, but I'm not sure how to go about getting it installed on that partition, as well as being able to dual boot it with my main Windows 7 install. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

use whatever partition manager you us in windows and delete the 40gig partition, then install ubuntu. the install will detect the free space and give you the option to install there.

Delete the partition completely or format it?

Thanks, worked perfectly. (Writing this inside of Ubuntu!)

don't forget to download 'ubuntu restricted extras' in System>administration
