I'm new to the forum, but I have a problem I'm trying to solve after installing Ubuntu 10.04. Everything with the install seemed to go fine, but when I log in on my main user account, the desktop freezes at some point during the start-up process. Sometimes the panels and some icons show up first, but sometimes nothing. Once it freezes, I can't do anything else. I have an ATI Radeon HD 3450 graphics card and the xserver-xorg-video-ati driver installed. I also have two monitors.

Since the problem started, I created another user account and have been able to log in with this one fine. I have it set up to a side-by-side display format on the two monitors. I can also log in to my main user account (the one that's not working normally) in the failsafe graphics mode. When I do this, the monitors are mirrored.

I have tried many things to fix this problem; does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
