Hi folks,
I recently installed iplayer desktop on my eeepc. I have two user accounts but neither can easily access the iplayer executable as I don't seem to able to create a shortcut (alias) as the iplayer program belongs to the root user, although both accounts can run the iplayer program, but they have to trawl through folders to get to the binary. It would be easier if they could run from a shrtcut in 'Favourites'.
I have checked through the forum and there are similar threads but none seem to be exactly what I'm dealing with.
Help and advice would be much appreciated,
nictu.

Is it not in your menu ?
Sounds as if you want what is called a custom menu entry or launcher.

1. Sometimes you need to log out and back in for your menues to be updated (I am assuming you already did that).
2. The link above will walk you through creating a launcher.
3. You should have an option to add to your menu somewhere in your menu, not sure where with your interface, look under system or preferences.

drag & drop the executable on to the panel icon on the left(the show desktop icon) it will be added to favorites.

Hi Bodhi and Kerry,
Thanks hugely, I now have shortcuts, although when I tried the drag and drop method, a shortcut was created in favourites, but it would not open the BBC iPlayer application. I think this has something to do with the iPlayer being owned by the root user?
Many thanks again,
nictu.

it's funny how everybody will try everything later..it's like, in the middle of the day,one suddenly remembers he/she had an ubuntu bug, reports it, and tries the solution a couple of hours later..
