Hi,

I read that one can upgrade to Lucid Lynx from Karmic (9.10) by either doing it online or using the Alternate Install CD from Ubuntu.

I don't prefer to upgrade online as I fear a power outage more than two hours that can create havoc in the upgrade process. (My UPS just gives an hours back up).

I don't know what I will get in the Alternate Install CD upgrade.

Is it possible to upgrade using the 'regular' download, after burning the ISO of Ubuntu 10.04 LiveCD? If so how do I upgrade?

I have installed some programs in Karmic from the Ubuntu repositories, not included as default in the LiveCD. Could I get these remaining upgrade packages online.

Please could you help? Thanks.
:)

Upgrading to 10.04 with the Live CD is not an option. Due to space limitations the Live CD does not include the necessary software.

You can use - as you have read - the alternate CD or a network upgrade. Does not matter - in the end you will wind up with the same results.

In the end you will still have to upgrade some packages over the network - Any software packages you have installed that are not on the Alternated CD - and - any packages updated since the alternated CD was released.

Thank you for the help.

I successfully upgraded my Laptop without the CD over the Internet.

The 'Update Manager does a great job.

I must compliment you on the picture of that dog, handsome specimen.
