Here are some video tutorials on Compiz (the program that supplies effects)

Also, take a look at www.ubuntu-manual.org for a lot of really helpful stuff for new users.

The super key is actually the windows key between ctrl and alt, on the left or the right.

hi, again spoke to soon, great links:) how ever i have 'compiz manager' listed and the fire affect works, explode, folding plane, and i can turn the whole screen, wobbly windows ok, i can find settings for cube, rotate cube, ect, But in ''hardware drivers'' there are none listed, can i or does 'ubuntu' install its own drivers or share windows OR do you download them?. finally is there written instructions rather than visual re: compiz settings
thanks mark.:)

If everything is working as it should (it sounds like it is if fire effects and cube effects are all working) and there are none listed in Hardware Drivers then you don't need to install any drivers.

Almost all of the drivers Ubuntu uses are included in the kernel already.

Not sure what the best place to look for extra Compiz documentation is, but I found the Compiz wiki which might be helpful - http://wiki.compiz.org/

Also, you could use google to find out about any specific Compiz feature.
