Ubuntu minimal install synaptic problem

I finished a minimal install of Ubuntu 10.04 32 bit from cli I installed xorg,LXDE,Gnome display manager and synaptic package manager. Once i reached the desktop i did sudo aptitude install chromium. Both programs were installed but I can get neither to start from the run termial. error failed to execute child process synaptic ( no such file or directory)

The system is 2.4 Ghz Athlon 2, 1 Gb memory Gigabyte motherboard Ga- 7vaxp

Could you post the output of
sudo apt-get install chromium-browseror the problem lies somewhere else?

Thanks I tried again and this time I got the icon and am on the net. Same with synaptic. Thanks again
