Please help! I was using Ubuntu 9.10 with no problems for the last 4 months. I used the update manager to upgrade to 10.04 and I have not had a functional computer since. After the upgrade, when the computer restarts it goes to a blank screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner that is completely non-responsive. After booting with my 9.10 CD and saving all my data I tried to re-install 9.10 but it gets hung up on the "apt building" and doesn't finish the install. I burned a 10.04 CD and tried to do an install with that, but I am having the same problem as I did with the upgrade (boots to a blinking cursor).

I have a i970 quad-core chip with 24GB of RAM, an ASUS EN8400GS SILENT/512M Graphics Card and 4TB of memory. What is it that I am doing wrong here?
