Yeah, I know I am a noob at Ubuntu so here goes. I have an old Toshiba Tecra M2V-S310 with a roughly 40 Gb hard drive with WinXP installed and I want to dual boot UBR. Ive read a lot of sources and noone gives me a definite answer. How many of what kind of partitions do I need to make before I install?

Thanks,
iFireGate

P.S.
I'm creating a a boot usb right now to use.

Under normal circumstances you will need just one partition for the Ubuntu installation. As for the filesystem, you can use any one of a number of filesystems but generally it is ext3 (or ext2) for 9.04 and earlier. With 9.10 and above you also have the option of using the newer ext4.

Hope this helps,
