the in re bilsky finding by the SCOTUS last year does put software patents in a less seaworthy boat than they had previously been trolling in, but they are still a long way from being invalidated, especially since Germany;s courts found them legal, which may cause issues for the EU legal framework.

the MPEGLA patent pool for VP8 really bothers me. these idiots have done nothing, but they are going to try to use patent FUD to extract money out of people to license VP8, a technology that they have nothing to do with.

patents are supposed to allow an evolution of technology. the way they are being used these days though, they are causing a techno-economic gridlock, that really limits our potentials to innovate.

This thread is doomed to be shutdown because people will complain it's "America bashing" or whatever. But you can't really discuss software patents without discussing the US legal system, because only 2 nations allow them AFAIK, and one has next to zero impact internationally.

The CC is supposed to allow
for politics directly related to free and open source issues.
