Visual Effectsss not Working

Hi I installed Ubuntu 10.04 in my Dell Laptop.
The Visual effects are not working, when i changed the option from NONE to Normal or Extra, it is showing an error message as "Destop Effects could not be enabled".

So how can I get Visual effects in my Laptop

System Specs:
DELL INSPIRON 14 with ATI 1GB Memory, 4GB RAM, i3 processor.
