Hey everyone, new ubuntu user here... Anyway does anyone know of software that will run on ubuntu for jailbreaking/unlocking a iphone? I just bought a 3g for 50bucks and want to do it, but really don't want to pay for it to be done.

Thanks
Brtnrider

this isn't a forum to help you pirate stuff

You folks are tarring with a rather broad brush here. I have an iPod Touch that I have jailbroken. I do not use it to view pirated media.

Your implication that the only reasons to unlock an iPhone involve piracy is hereby disproved.

OP: I am not aware of a way to unlock this on Linux. But I haven't looked around for anything for over a year.

It didn't take much of a google to find this:

Anyway does anyone know of software that will run on ubuntu for jailbreaking/unlocking a iphone? The admins might not like it if I explain this in public (not because they don't see that jailbreaking an iPhone is _necessary_ to make an iPhone usable for a Linux user, but rather because posting such instructions here might cause legal action from Apple and we certainly don't need that) ... So instead I sent you a PM.

Once you have jailbroken your phone you can install a SSH daemon (make sure you read the instructions and change the default password!!) and then easily remote access your phone via WiFi from Ubuntu's file manager.

Jailbreaking isnt illegel afaik. the thing is untill u r not using any pirated thing in ur iouch/ifone,nothing is illegal. By the way why are you trying it from Linux. First of all as you asked a question here. I think you are new at this.
All the information you will need belongs to here

The admins haven't locked this thread? So based on the assumption that jailbreaking your own iPhone is not illegal I am posting the address for the jailbreak I myself use here:

http://www.blackra1n.com (Blackra1n)

Yes, that's the one by "geohot", aka George Hotz. His blog is here:

EDIT: Sorry for redundant posting, I just saw that the link has already been posted above :)

in that case vladimir, installing mac os x on your computer would be fine if you bought it but i find the moderators on these forums disagreeing with that and closing any of those threads.

i dont care too much about piracy and stuff.
but in my opinion this doesn't meet the forums regulations.
