rhythmbox isn't cutting it. is there something better than rhythmbox, banshee, or miro? maybe something that automatically reloads feeds when internet connection is established after suspend?

Banshee is quite good but the extension has a couple of known bugs. Last year as part of GSoC a new extension was written but it isn't currently in a mergable state (the author is working on it).

gPodder.

Came here from google, searching for exactly the same thing.
Tried gpodder a few days ago. Don't really like it, because:
* it's not a player (can only add/enqueue in other players).
* when added/enqueued in other players, files are hard to identify, as they don't have nice titles (derived from episode's title), but for example 22342asd.mp3
* there is no "see episodes from all feeds" view. When I want to see the most recent episodes from my 20 feeds, I have to click through all of them...

Haven't tried Rhythmbox for that for a year or so. It's my default music player, but had problems with podcasts (can't really remember what they were :) ).

I've used Banshee for podcasts for the last few years. It has a fair share of problems (that's why I keep looking for a better client), but haven't found anything better yet.

Problems with the current Banshee podcast plugin includes:

Occasional problems updating feeds (feeds will have updates which Banshee for some reason doesn't register).

Occasional problem can be triggered where "download every episode" is no longer honored.

Slight problems with non compliant rss feeds (not really Banshees fault).

These should be addressed in the upcoming podcast-ng plugin, if not at least the refactored code should at least be in a much better position to get them fixed.

That being said of the mediaplayer podcast extensions I have tried Banshee currently is my favorite.

The only reason I haven't spent time investigating these issues in depth is that with podcast-ng coming it seems like time that could be invested better. Sadly merging has taken a while longer than expected.

I'm pretty addicted to listening to podcasts, and I've really started loving Rhythmbox. Just curious, what do you not like about it? I've tried various other podcast aggregates, but honesty none I've found work exactly like I'd like (including Rhythmbox). A few people suggested gPodder, which I haven't tried in a while, so I may give that another shake.

For me though I enjoy bouncing between my music, podcasts, and streaming audio, so Rhythmbox works pretty well since it has everything in one place. I wonder if there's a gPodder plugin for Rhythmbox...
