I tried to install Lucid the other day and got a i/o error as soon as I tried to boot into the live cd or any other option on the menu (check cd etc). I tried different burns at slower speeds etc but it still has the same error. I tried the new Linux Mint and it does the same thing. I tried Mandriva 2010 and it works so it must be some sort of kernel issue with Ubuntu I guess?? I was wondering if anyone knows what is causing the error. I googled it but didn't have much luck. Also I currently run Linux Mint 5 (which is the lts one) and was wondering if I could just change my sources list to match Mint 9 and do a dist upgrade. Is this safe since 5 and 9 are lts?

Tanks for the help
