And it still does not work.

Works fine here, for cam I have to give the ld_preload command.

Skype works for me, too. (I don't have a cam, so I don't know if that part works.)

I don't know if I would call that "working fine".

Well,it does not here using a Logitech Web Cam Pro 9000. Won't even turn the camera ON .. camera works in Cheese. Audio tests out OK. Skype, NOTHING! and will not even connect to the test site.

This is the only issue I now have with 10.04.. and since it is third party and not the responsibility of Ubuntu .. that says something VERY POSITIVE for the new build.

I installed Skype yesterday using the Skype PPA available in Ubuntu Tweak and it worked perfectly. Well I say worked perfectly, the camera worked out of the box and it made test calls properly.

Weren't they supposed to open source the linux version?

I would hope that it would fix the common webcam issue (http://www.eoinmurphy.org/blog/2009/04/26/logitech-webcam-skype-under-ubuntu/) people have

No.

They were supposed to open-source the *UI*, not the Skype protocol/software/anything majorly useful :)
