View Full Version : [ubuntu] installed ubuntu; it changed to xubuntu???

i installed ubuntu 10.04; it ran an update installation a couple days ago, and now i have xubuntu.

i didn't see anything about this in the update and wish to revert to ubuntu.

any ideas how this happened and how to revert?

Don't know what caused it. You should be able to revert back with this http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/puregnome

That will not get you back to Ubuntu. Ubuntu is a modified gnome desktop.

Sounds like you installed it by mistake. Xubuntu desktop will not install unless you ask it too - on purpose or by accident. At the login menu, on the bottom left - i believe - you should have the option of changing your desktop.

You should be able to select Sessions from the login screen and choose Gnome to get the Ubuntu desktop. (Or Xfce if you want Xubuntu... some users like being able to switch between them.)

If you want to completely remove Xfce and go back to the Ubuntu defaults, check out the "Remove Xubuntu" section of this tutorial:
