View Full Version : [ubuntu] Password on clean install

May 22nd, 2010, 10:04 AM
I'm trying to do a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04 on a friends i386 computer and it keeps wanting me to log in (authenticate). Of course I cannot enter a password until I've completed the install. Is there a default password for ubuntu? It is funny as I have installed the x86-64 version of ubuntu 10.04 (on my 64 bit computer) and have not had the same problem.
Cheers & thanks

There needs to be a username and password created for the installation.

Hi, fred1084. Welcome to UbuntuForums!

So the live CD is requiring a password? If that is the case, you probably have a corrupted install CD and need to download it again and check the md5sum (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM).

Hi all,

Thanks everyone. I will do a clean download in the morning and try that.
