I have already posted something on this, but I was away for so long that I thought I should just make a new question (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9209168#post9209168).
Plus I thought I would just ask again since I asked the wrong question before, probably because I was so frustrated with the whole situation.
Problem: I want to upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04 with the netbook/remix version of Ubuntu (I don not have windows, only ubuntu on this computer). It is not possible to do this with the update manager (can only upgrade to the regular version of ubuntu) , I have tried to do it with a usb and a CD (external cd drive) and the result is that it only asks me to overwrite my entire harddrive with the new version. There is never any point were it asks me to simply upgrade only to reinstall overtop of my existing files. The last thing that I tried was to mount the iso image on the desktop, using Gmount-iso, and then pressed alt+f2 and ran this line of code; gksu "sh /cdrom/cdromupgrade" suggessted by the ubuntu homepage (http://www.ubuntulinux.org/getubuntu/upgrading#Upgrading%20Using%20the%20Alternate%20CD/DVD). It also did not work, nothing happened.
So right now my options are to overwrite my entire harddrive destroying all of my files, or to stay on 9.10, which is ok but I would rather upgrade. One of my friends suggested to save all my computer settings and files (which I cannot remember how to do now) and then upgrade over my existing harddrive and then unpack my settings. Does that sound like it would work?
I have to say though this is really annoying, why isnīt there just an option in the update manager to choose the netbook version over the regular version when it asks to upgrade the system.
