Hello, I want to install ubuntu 10, but I don't like it's comercial- and social-features. So.. how can I remove any comercial software from the software-center and ubuntu one? how can I remove the me-menu(?) from the bar? is it possible to use the 9.10 boot screen?

are there other annoying features or UI elements you know of ubuntu 10 and how do you remove them?

thanks in advance

Annoying is a subjective term. You might want to try a distro like Linux Mint, it is based on Ubuntu, but does not have the social-desktop packages installed by default.

You can pretty much remove anything you want through synaptic package manager OR software center. In synaptic just type in the name of the program you want to remove and mark for removal, then apply. In software center its even easier, if it's installed through the software center you just type it in the search, when it comes up click "remove".

Year, Mint is a good proposal. Can you run any Ubuntu-programms on it.. (I think yes)

the thing is, that I don't want to remove programm. I just want to remove (not uninstall) any commercial software within Ubuntus Software Center, because I don't like such things. It's the beginning of the evil. The only thing i would appreciate, is an question for donation at the installation of ubuntu or a CheckBox in the SoftwareCenter if you want to see any commercial software.

no, i'm not a vegetarian anyway :D
but it looks great.

ok, I have some questions:

1) Can I use the ubuntu 10 theme in gNewSense
2) Can I replace the Icon with my own and can I rename it to my own ideas (that would be really great; I don't want to make a new distro! I just want to change it for my own.)
3) Does compiz & co work?
4) What software is provided by default?
5) Are there any drawbacks you know? Is it fast? (faster then ubuntu?)

btw. Richard Stallman use it. & i'm very upset about the new ubuntu branding (purple.. wtf?!?), restriction and commercialisation.

2) Yes. Just find and replace the file with icon.
3) No, it needs video drivers working.
4) No mp3, flash and video's. Some network-related things unavailable too. No 3d, maybe no drivers for another hardware.
