I download DVDRip's, and as you know they have a small resolution. Now what i want is for the subtitles to show in the black part below the movie/picture, and not in the movie.Any way/player for Ubuntu that makes this possible?

This really depends on how the subtitles are being rendered.

If these rips are avi/mp4/mkv files with separate subtitles such as "sub" files (in the case of mkv they are in the container) then most players such as totem, vlc and mplayer allow you to change the sub positions.

On the other hand if these are DVD Iso files or are rips that have the subs "hard coded" into the file, you are out of luck, they are in the video itself rendered as part of the frame.

Cheers,
