Just curious..
What quality do you use when encoding music to MP3 players?
Using VBR I've used V2 so far. Clearly V0, the highest, is a waste of file space and you're not going to notice any difference going down a notch or two. So I settled on V2. What do others use?

I like my mp3's to be 320kb/sec.

I only rip my cds in flac. However, I'd probably use v0 if I were to rip them in mp3. I'd rather listen to my music is full, uncompressed quality.

If I ripped to mp3 I'd probably do 320 kbps, like the Ubuntu One Music Store. However, I prefer ogg, since it's smaller at the same quality and will be widely supported for the foreseeable future.

I'd rip to ogg but my MP3 player doesn't seem to recognise it.

I couldn't detect any difference between V0 and V2 on my MP3. Of course it could be my crude ears!

If you rip your mp3's at anything less then 320kb, then play them back on even a good midrange receiver/amp with separate speakers, not one of those all-in-wonder bookshelf units with attached speakers, you can easily tell the difference even if you have a tin ear. :)

I rip them to flac.
Once you flac... you never go back.

How about AAC? Does your player recognise that format? I archived my cd's to FLAC on my remote HDD, and use ogg and a player (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16855125067&cm_re=sansa_fuze-_-55-125-067-_-Product) that supports it, but AAC is more efficient (http://soundexpert.org/encoders-128-kbps) than MP3.

If I were using MP3, I personally wouldn't go lower than 256 kbps @ 44100 Hz, but the file size is rather large.

Thanks, Thats something I hadn't considered. Will look into it.

I rip to .flac for my computer, and to V0 for my MP3 player. It will actually play flac (and ogg) but with 2GB onboard memory, flac just eats a bit to much room. Maybe when I get that 8GB microSD card I will start using .flac on it. I would use ogg, but I like having the album art support, and it doesnt seem to work with oggs. On my player anyway.

Most people will tell the difference, but a few wouldnt. V0 would be prety much the same as well IMO

Same here... space is not an issue for me, so I go full quality.

Except that's not full quality.

192kbps (anything more goes unnoticed on headphones, plus i'm fairly deaf)

I don't judge the quality of music by it's bit-rate :P

Lame V0 or V2
