After reading about death of the Desktop, and the coming of Cloud Computing, I got to thinking.

For cloud computing to work, the internet infrastructure must be fairly robust 9-5, Monday through Friday.

At our shop, the fastest internet you can purchase at any price is 6 down, 3 up, which is about $1500/m (Bonded T1). Normal DSL internet is 1.5/384k but true speed is about half that during working hours.

I'm not all that sure 3 mbps is that good of speed for running remote applications. Most broadband is not symmetrical, the upload speed is poor.

So what is your average UPLOAD speed?

30Meg down and 350k up...the rewards of complaining to TWC...

1.5Mb down/ 384K up.

Crappy internet is still "high-speed" internet.

I have managed to get better for the download speeds in the past, which should be the case since I'm supposedly on an ADSL2+ connection. I'm wondering if there's any connection with the work my choice of telco & ISP has been doing on the roadside cabinets and cabling in my area in recent months. It could however just mean that I need to have another look at the wiring in my home, which, amongst other things, is missing the proper terminator box where the cable comes in from the street...sighs

I'm at uni at the moment. At home it's about 15Mbits/sec down and 5Mbits/sec up.

hmm... The last time I tested the upload speed was when I was seeding the ubuntu isos...
Although the connection was rated at 1 GB/s (gigabyte that is, not gigabit), the highest I could get was 700MB/s.

Damn. Their doing false advertising :D

yeah, but thats only at colo4

My home network is 20mb/s upload, 30mb/s download. Except that about 10mb/s upload and download is kinda nonexistant because its used by the VPN... so 10/20 :).

2mbps dow
256kbps up

and I pay an arm and a leg for it

I don't see cloud-compiting happening on anything but netbooks/umpcs

I actually downgraded from a 120/10Mbit connection to a 60/6Mbit connection.

Fist time in my life I actually downgraded.

To put it in perspective: I've uploaded well over 250GB [thats Gigabyte, not bit] of Lucid love. :D
Also uploaded a lot of love [200GB] towards other distro's over the same period.
